Classic/Must Play (8.5 – 10)
ACTION
+ ranking, great variation, much tighter controls, double jump, wall climbing, great
bosses overall, good length, includes Strider 1 arcade version with (optional)
remixed music, difficulty options?
- more of a remake of the first game, unlimited continues *and* respawn on the spot
removes the challenge, somewhat annoying boss introductions
+ 3 difficulties with 50 levels each and different game modes, 8-player?, ghost mode
for getting revenge after death, switch items on/off
- single player is a remake of the first game and dull as hell, flak vest seems over-
powered

Overall Score-
+ Silly humor, varied level design (platforming, pole climbing, minor puzzles, hidden items), decent voice acting, assimilate enemy abilities,
magic attacks, day/night cycle, mini-games
- Some camera issues, having to wait for shops to open is tedious (you can sleep at will
though), no second quest?

+ Lots to see and do, successfully dramatic and emotional scenes, customizable characters
- SD characters look very dated, some mini-games not very well executed, some very shallow
characters

Tombi!
- many fetch quests, collectathon, lame rewards for some quests, Tombi has a problem
with grabbing onto grapple points, limited movement between planes (only through certain
spots that are pretty rare), lack of consistency (you can't climb some walls), you quickly
end up with quests that are sometimes not explained at all which can be overwhelming at
times, some backtracking

Overall Score-8.5
good length, unlockable character (second quest), lots of moves, shapeshifting, hilarious dialogue,
save points, secret rooms and items
- You can skip many challenging rooms by turning in to a bat, the upside down castle is a
cheap way to extend gameplay, most bosses are too easy unless you make an effort not
to level up
RPG
Final Fantasy VIII
Gfx-8.5 Snd-8 Ctrl-8 Chl-6.5 Sty-7 Ld-7 Fr-8 Fun-7 Ov-7.5
- very introvert and immature main char, mostly boring dialogue, stupid plot twists, some
characters lack development (irvine), the draw and junction systems are easy to abuse,
drawing is extremely boring but you have to do it because you don't know when you're
going to need a certain magic plus you'll want too keep the magic to junction to your
characters - forces the player into tedious balancing, aliens, the concert scene, rehashes
a lot of stuff

+ Three different battle systems (party encounter, large-scale battle, duel), 108 recruitable
characters that you can also carry over to the second game, mini-games, see your home
base develop as you recruit more characters, good bosses overall
- can't walk diagonally, while the duel and large-scale battle are fun diversions they lack
substance and get pretty boring on repeated playthroughs, somewhat choppy scaling effects
, somewhat uneven difficulty (vampire boss),

Good if You Like the Genre/Worth Trying
Thunder Force V
+ Warning boxes when enemies attack fast from an unexpected direction, choose your path,
difficulty options, save feature (auto-save), some cool perspective-effects (though you loose control
when they happen - not good), pretty intense and varied
- cluttered and pixelated backgrounds and small enemy bullets that blend with them,
cheap-looking menus (especially clear level screen), trial & error, unbalanced weapons
(the reverse beam is way too slow to target with), annoying white boxes around enemies,
bosses go down very fast when using charged beams, no life tally?, short opening stages
Mediocre/Not For Everyone
